Denmark - From the first half of the 20th century
These plates were made by the Danish factory Aluminia, which has been a part of Royal Copenhagen since 1882. This series of plates was made by Aluminia on the occasion of the birthday of Princess Juliana for the period 1909-1921. There were several designers involved and it is not always possible to discern who did what. The plates were are most likely designed by Harald Slott-Møller, Rasmus Harboe, Nils Thorsson and Christian Joachim, as they were the designers during the period from 1901 until 1930. The plates have a diameter of approximately 24.5 cm and a depth of 5 cm.
In the Princessehof Museum in Leeuwarden a number of these plates were exhibited during the exhibition of items from the House of Orange 2010. The Juliana Plates are at present the property of the Van Diepen Foundation. . The ‘Dordrecht Museum Mr. Simon van Gijn’ has a plate from this series in their collection.
These plates are generally in good condition, three of these plates have some minor damage:
The plate for 1909 has a small crack in the enamel on the rim.
