An exceptionally fine Blanc de Chine porcelain figure of Guanyin with a rose in her hand, 35 cm high, standing on a lotus base, made around 1940. Guanyin, Kwanyin, Guanshiyin or Guanyin Pusa is the Chinese interpretation of thebodhisattva Avalokiteśvara (the goddess of compassion and mercy) In addition, she is regarded as an immortal in Taoism. The holy script devoted to her is the Dabeizhou. Guanyin is the goddess of mercy and the sea. Together with Mahasthamaprapta and Amitabha Buddha, she is one of the three saints of the western paradise; they are worshipped to save deceased loved ones from hell and give them access to the western paradise. The sculpture has a red mark at the bottom, which is unfortunately nearly illegible. Condition can be described as very good. Unfortunately her left thumb is missing. No other visible damage.
