Blue underglaze porcelain lidded dresser box painted to the central roundel with the V.O.C. Dutch East India Company monogram within a flowering plants, surrounded with floral cartouches. These beautiful decorations are typical for the Chinese Wanli style. The underside base is also with VOC monogram.
The Arita porcelain became popular in The Netherlands when the Dutch East India Company (VOC - Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie) started trading in porcelain. Due to turmoil in China around 1644, the VOC turned to Japan for the porcelain trade. Delftware was greatly influenced by Arita porcelain.
