Good condition, see description.
This is a beautiful, jewelled, gilt bronze (fire gilding/hand-chased ormolu gilding
technique) Sino Tibetan, 18 arms Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, with gem settings.
Avalokiteśvara (Sanskrit: अवलोकितेश्वर) is a bodhisattva who embodies the compassionof all Buddhas. This bodhisattva is variably depicted, described and is portrayed in different cultures as either female or male. In Chinese Buddhism, Avalokiteśvara has become the somewhat different female figure Guanyin.
Here he is depicted with 18 arms, seated cross legged on a lotus throne. He holds many sacred objects each symbolic of the attributes needed to attain wisdom and eventual enlightenment.
With a jewelled crown and long hair, he wears the robes and jewellery of an enlightened Bodhisattva. Blue colour remnants in the hair, and red remnants on the reverse of crown, signify his purity, power, and wisdom. His understanding of all things, and power of the elements ( fire and water), male and female, Yin and Yang.
On top of his head is (in Japanese) called a 'Kebutsu 化仏' ( literally means transformation body, avatar, or manifestation of the Buddha or the Bodhisattva. In practical terms, it means a smaller Buddhist image attached to a larger image). This is said to aid enlightenment.
The base is sealed and has a copper consecreation plate with a vajra bolt symbol stamp.
It is in good condition for its age with some wear and loss to the gilt, and please note it does also have some green oxidized areas from the bronze beneath. The gilt for the most is still bright and intact, and reflects light beautifully as can be seen from the photos.
I've reset the empty jewellery settings with 17 quality semi precious and precious gemstones as would have been originally used ( I was a successful Jewellery Designer in Soho, London in the 1990s).
Coral x 6
Turquoise x 8 ( various size cabochons)
Emerald x 3

Although typical of pieces from the mid Ching Dynasty (1600-1800s), I'm listing it from the late 20th or possibly early 21st century.
A delightful Collectors piece, powerful Buddhist Altar statue, gift, or powerful interior design statement.
