Cab 413 armchair by Cassina. An important piece from the 'Cassina contemporaries' collection. The cabin chair is from the golden age of Italian design. Designed in 1977, this chair was signed by Mario Bellini, who obtained international fame with this renowned piece. Defining a decade, the cabin has remained an enormously successful model chair for a long time. Available with and without armrests, the chair is made of steel tubes and is entirely covered with leather. The upholstery consists of 16 different parts of leather, with 14 separate seams, stitched by hand. The separate parts were only stitched together with an accompanying piece after a scraping process, in order to create an excessive thickness. Finally, the upholstery was mounted on the steel frame, secured with a zipper as one would with a tailored dress.
Cabin is part of the collection in the MoMA in New York, and remains one of Cassina's best-sellers. The chairs are in good vintage condition with signs of wear.
