A beautiful bronze sculpture entitled 'L'étude et la méditation' (study and meditation) The sculpture represents an older man in classic garment, sitting on a rock He seems to be deep in thought, discontinuing his writing activities for a brief moment
The sculpture is signed on the rock ‘P. Dubois’ and ‘F. Barbedienne Fondeur Paris’ on the base .
It is made by the French artist Paul Dubois (1827-1905) and cast by the famous foundry F. Barbedienne in Paris in the late 19th century
On the base is also the stamp ‘Reduction Mecanique A. Collas’ and a number
The famous french sculptor Paul Dubois (1827-1905) debuted at the Salon in Paris in 1857 This sculpture is made after the example of one of the four sculptures for the mausoleum of General Lamoricière in the cathedral of Nantes (1879) These represent the four virtues ‘La Charité’, ‘Le Courage militaire’, ‘L'Etude’et la Méditation’ and ‘La Prière’
