The sculptures, Shiva and Uma, represent the beauty that is characteristic of works from the Baphuon period.
Shiva wears a Sampot wrapped around his waist, pulled between his legs and tied at the front; the texture of the fabric is represented by finely cut lines.
The excess material falls in stylized folds over the garment that is depicted as a series of folds.
The Sampot is held together with a belt.
The intricate belt that holds the garment is positioned low on the hips and is beautifully decorated and suggests sovereignty.
Usually with Baphuon art, whether the sculptures are commemorations of former rulers, or of a god or goddess, they are depicted with smiling, powerful upper bodies, slender waistlines and are usually less monumental in scale than the sculptures of other Khmer periods.
The Baphuon style is a modest yet sensual treatment of the human body that is displayed naturally.
They are not obstructed by extensive decorations, but much attention has been paid to the details of clothing and belts.
The styling of the back of the garment higher at the back than the front is typical of the sculptures in Baphuon style, as well as the thick proportional modelling of the legs and ankles.
The beautiful sculpture of a goddess or deified queen is elegantly proportioned and exhibits the characteristic harmony that is typical of the Baphuon style.
Her face has a sweet soft expression and her slightly smiling mouth is full and sensual.
The braided vertical locks of her hair are shaped into a Jatamukuta held in place by a similarly shaped band.
Around her female body is a tight-fitting sarong folded in narrow pleats, depicted by cut linear lines that are meticulous in their uniformity.
The sarong's excess edges are tied into a flat knot and form a fish tail fold that ends at the hem.
A belt that holds the garment hangs low on her hips, which means an increased status.
