Nice small calibrated bascule of the manufacturer VIW. It's not a gardener’s/farmer’s bascule like you see often, but a store bascule. It stood on the counter in a store, and for that time (1950s) that was unusual, because the weighing devices of Berkel, Olland etc. were already available, which were much more convenient to use. This bascule was calibrated in 1950, as shown on the mark. The manufacturer’s brass plate states: WEEGVERMOGEN 50 kg GELEVERD 1950 2276 V.I.W. and on the aluminium label of the metrological service it says IJKWEZEN 2 MODEL NO 13 D and twice the year letter S stamped for 1949 and 1950 The bascule is 78 x 34 x 52 cm (l x w x h) and weighs 10.5 kg. The accompanying weights weigh 5.2 kg in total. The beech wood block of 19.4 x 6.2 x 4.7 cm (l x w x h) is entirely filled with weights of 5-2-1 ounce and 20-10-5-2-1 grams. The iron weights are 2.1 and 1 kg.
