A medium size carnelian bead from the Pyu Culture, 200-1000 CE, Upper Myanmar. Its colour is natural. No traces of dyeing at a later date. The holes are ancient, handmade, irregular, funnel-shaped. Nice ancient patina. In good condition. D : 19 mm Shipping as registered mail-pack.

Pyu Culture:
The Tibeto-Burman speaking Pyu people migrated in approx. the 2th Century from China into Burma and are the county’s earliest recorded inhabitants.
Most of pre-Pyu Culture flourished around the Samon Valley in central Myanmar.
They established the Pyu kingdom which remained powerful and influential for a millennium.
The kingdom established important trade ties with the Chinese and Indians from whom they adopted some practices such as Buddhism.
