Enamel cup to remind of the wedding of Tsar Nicholas II
Enameled Russian cup from 1896.
The Khodynka Cup of Sorrows or the coronation cup, the sorrow cup, or the blood cup, made for the coronation of Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna. The cup bears their initials H and J surrounded by a geometric pattern. On the other side is the Tsarischtisch weapon with two-headed eagle and Czars Crown.
The cup was sought after by the coronation of the Tsar and Tsarina. More than half a million spectators crowded on the Khodynka field in Moscow. When the cups were handed out, thousands of people were crushed to death. Tsar Nicholas II was left with his nickname bloody Nicholas and it was the Tsarina that gave the cup gave the name "Cup of Sorrows".
Condition: There are some chips missing on the edge and one chip on the side, the decorations are still very clear. Compared to other copies this cup looks good.
The traces of use are not unusual, given the history and the age of these cups.
